About the Event:

What Is Rock Up?
Rock Up is a group of young people in the Central West aiming to provide more opportunities for all age drug and alcohol free entertainment in our own district. Rock Up was started in Orange in 2003 with the aim of organising all-ages gigs and activities for the youth of the Central West, as well as trying to develop a profile for the Central West as a musical hotspot, with the Band Competition expanding from 4 events in Orange in 2004 to 13 events in Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst and Lithgow in 2006. This year will also include Condobolin and Cowra. The Rock Up committee’s key interest is music, and many of the members of this group have an interest in event management, professional production, and are musicians themselves.
How Will It Be Run?
Rock Up 2008 Battle of the Bands will be holding heats in Orange, Bathurst, Lithgow, Dubbo, Condobolin and Cowra. Each town will have two (2) heats, which will then be followed by a semi-final, with the winners competing in a regional final in Dubbo. Cowra and Condobolin will also be holding a heat with the winner of Condobolin going into the Dubbo Semi and the Winner and Runner Up of the Cowra Heat going into the Orange Semi.
Bands will be allocated to a heat, not randomly drawn, to ensure that a range of styles is present during each heat. To determine ranking, bands will be judged by a panel of judges on qualities and attributes of performance, stage presence, and musicianship.

REFRESHMENTS: Local charities will be invited to sell light refreshments.
